CASTLE OF FIANO ROMANO 3 km from the B & B

Built strategically on a rocky outcrop at the dawn of the Middle Ages, Fiano presents the harmonious intertwining of the three elements of castle architecture Italian: walls, keep and palace. The fortification of massive walls rise north five towers and rectangular, east, desecrated the Abbey of Santa Maria trans pontem. It opens to the west, Porta Capena, of typical Renaissance structure with round arch ashlar ashlar, with attached rivellino, once fitted with wooden drawbridge. The building of the castle today is the result of structural changes over the centuries at the hands of Count Niccolò III Orsini in 1493 amplio the existing medieval fortress inherited from Orso and Elisabetta Orsini, adding the residence of counts in clear Renaissance style and the Duke of Fiano Marco Ottoboni , which, in the late seventeenth century, it concluded in rectangle castle adding the wing prospicente Porta Capena and Via Roma. The extreme defense and control of the feud were entrusted to the two towers in whose shade stood the palace: the smaller, square and slope that reinforces the corner of the south-east, adorned with the company staff of Nicholas III Orsini (collar mastiff caught between two hands pierced by the sharp points that is the motto 'prius quam mori fidem fallere'- rather die than betray the faith); the second circle called 'Mastio', engaged in formwork stocky, thirty meters high and thick walls around 2.70 meters. In the courtyard melt strength of the belligerent Mastio with the elegance of a double row of arches topped by white staircase leading to the main floor of the residence Ursinea lying limply in the heat of the midday sun. Link

FIANO ROMANO 3 km from the B&B

Fiano Romano is 97 meters high above sea level, in a climate privileged, in the green between the Tiber River and the surrounding hills, about 20 km from Rome. At the beginning of the fourth century BC the inhabitants scattered in small settlements on the nearby hills, which under the rule of Rome grew in importance and represented the future nucleus of Fiano. Today the Town is strongly characterized by its historical center, surrounded by walls and dominated by the Castello Ducale, and the Church of Santo Stefano New. Numerous events throughout the year enliven the city. Markets, traditional, Carnival Fianese, the holidays and important cultural events can be found at the following link .

Extended wetland created by man. It is in fact the so-called "Lake Nazzano", formed after the construction of a dam on the Tiber (1953-1955) in its middle reaches, downstream namesake country. After more than half a century, the vegetation has adapted to changing environmental conditions and the protection regime has allowed this environment to remain intact. Today we represent one of the most interesting sites in central Italy for birdwatching and observation of 'fascinating and little-known world of the swamp. The Nature Reserve is SCI (Site of Community Importance) and SPA (Special Protection Area) under the Habitats Directive 92/43 / EEC and Birds 2009/147 / EC (which updated the previous Directive 79/409 / EEC) and It is included in the European Natura 2000 network (Mediterranean biogeographical region). Nature trails and observation huts along the banks of the Tiber reveal the aquatic life of the Reserve; the River Museum helps to understand the ecosystem of this environment; picnic areas allow you to spend a day in contact with nature; the boats "Airone" and "Martin Pescatore" ... Link
